Japanese companies are hard to assess from outside Japan.
Most Japanese companies are private, and most of what exists about them is written in Japanese. A registry print-out tells you the company exists. It does not tell you whether to ship on credit.
The records are in Japanese
The commercial registry, the Official Gazette (kanpō) and most news coverage are published only in Japanese, with no official English version.
Private companies disclose little
Unlisted companies publish only short balance-sheet notices, often not at all. The figures need to be found, read and put in context.
Low-cost reports stop at the registry
Name, address, capital and directors. The questions that decide a credit line, such as how much to extend and on what terms, are left unanswered.

Frequently asked questions
Can you report on small, unlisted companies?
Yes. We report on private companies as well as listed ones. Where financial statements are not published, we obtain them by direct enquiry where possible, and the report states what could and could not be verified.
What if the company refuses to cooperate?
We complete the report from registry, gazette and other records, and state clearly that the subject declined direct enquiry.
Do I need an account or a contract?
No. You can order a single report by email.
Is Japanese consumption tax added?
No. Japanese consumption tax does not apply to these orders. You pay the price shown, in US dollars.
